Coach Matt Dixon reports on the Under 9s trip to Esher:

The Warly Wizards and Warlocks U9’s boys teams played some magical rugby in changeable conditions at Esher on Sunday.

The boys ran great lines and exhibited fantastic passing to put each other through gaps in attack. In defence, they kept it tight and often completed six tackles for the turnover, frequently making dominant tackles, causing the opposition to spill the ball and allowing a Warlingham player to pick up and run in a try! To top it off, they also played the ball quickly and kept the opposition on the back foot, it was great to watch!

While it was a total team performance, we would like to call out a couple of individual performances;

Ethan, one of our newer players, gave a great defensive performance from the wing to force opposition into touch, or to run back inside into our covering players. He also captained well, and made sure others got into the defensive line for restarts.

Benji, used all of his tackling determination and strength to drive opposition attackers back in tackles (on one occasion pushing a player back 20 meters!), showing the type of determination we can all be proud of.

Louis demonstrated great forward running and passing out of tackles in attack, with some excellent cover tackles in defence to make sure the opposition did not convert run away tries.

The whole team put in a shift, but the stand out feature of the day was the attitude of the boys which the coaching team were so, so proud of. They lived the TREDS ethos, shaking hands with every opposition member and officials, clapped injured players and never complained about refereeing decisions.

They represented the club with gusto, they were all magic!
