U16s parent Iain Macdonald brings us heartbreaking news for the age group as they narrowly missed out on some silverware last weekend.
Warlingham Trinity U16 BaBa’s final game of the season was against Battersea Ironsides Bs for the Hampstead Cup Tier 4, 5th place playoff with the boys having finished 3rd in their mini-league.
The tie was played at Guildford and started fast with the opposition taking a quick converted try and penalty kick to take a 10 point lead before our boys managed to put 3 points on the board. They got over the try line once more before half time to lead 15-3. The second half saw more control by the BaBa’s with a Dylan try in the corner, and, after a yellow card for Battersea, a converted try by Harry following a clever interception, which saw the scores level at 15-15.
A nervous finale saw Battersea miss a penalty kick in front of the posts. The ref blew for full time and the boys had done well and both teams respectfully congratulated each other. Unfortunately, the tournament rules in a draw the winner is who scored first.
Huge respect and praise goes out to all the players who kept their heads in the fight all game, never giving up and always believing in themselves - well done boys, you made us all proud!
