Warlingham Under 13’s welcomed two strong Surrey teams to Hamsey Green from London Irish and Camberley.
The games were both hard fought and although the blue and white were on the wrong side of the results it was a brilliant morning with some excellent and innovative rugby being played.
The game against Camberley was great from the start with a brilliant grubber kick off, by scrum half Ronan Devaney, gathered by the galloping forwards. It really set the tone with Devaney controlling the breakdown from the front with Warlingham playing some great passing rugby.
The first try came from Rocco Wild after spotting the space blind from a quick breakdown, the second coming from player of the match Calvin Rainsford after a quick ruck a couple of passes down the line before stepping into the space and leaving the opposition in his wake. Unfortunately despite long period of pressure close to the Camberley line they just could not convert the pressure into points the rest of the game, with Camberley unfortunately scoring four unanswered tries.
The London Irish game was much the same with a hard fought game but unfortunately with Warlingham being on the wrong side of the scoreline.
Despite this the lads played hard all game with Luca Smith going over the corner and Antoine Gisselbrecht breaking through 4 tacklers after three phases of quick ball and some brilliant carries. Warlingham dominated the set piece all the way through the game and with the introduction of their own bomb squad at half time they pressured the Irish at scrum time. Further tries from Jake Amer and Bailey Carpenter took the Irish team close but they just edged out the result.
Well done to all the players for their efforts and the development is clear for all to see. Well done coaches for your committed work and to parents for supporting all the players to 2 strong sides.
It was brilliant to see James Delderfield 1st XV captain out helping coach the Under 13s last weekend. It’s been great to see so many senior players down on a Sunday to help out and pass on tips! More to come.
Well done our Warly Under 13s!
