Despite a relatively dry autumn and early winter, the start of 2026 has delivered rain in torrents, with the result that our pitches have not been up to the task of taking training sessions. In anticipation of this, Junior Chair Matt Talboys has been able to secure a block booking of time on the astropitches at Oakhyrst Grange School, Caterham right up until the start of April. The bookings are available for Junior age groups on Thursday evenings.

“Having access to alternative facilities gives us options when the pitches aren’t usable.” says Matt, “They can be used as additional sessions too where teams need additional support and inputs”.

Being old school astro, there will be some compromises to be made when it comes to what a training session consists of, however being able to get teams together midweek to bring consistency to their game is a huge benefit. “It’s the club’s commitment to ensuring that we can maintain coaching and training in light of the recent poor weather and the impact that has on the pitches” says Matt.
