Last Sunday saw the U14s travel to Wandsworth for their second fixture in the Waterfall Cup, taking on the Battersea Ironsides’ B team, writes Assistant Head Coach Chris Short. The rain held off just long enough for the pitches to dry, allowing the game to go ahead in good conditions.
Both teams first crossed paths in the hallway between the changing rooms before running out together, led by captain Mitchell T, through a tunnel of cheering parents. From the moment the whistle blew, it was clear that both sides were fully committed to the contest.

The match quickly became a forwards-dominated battle, built on heavy tackling, aggressive rucking, and a relentless fight for possession. Warlingham’s pack were immense throughout, driving Battersea backwards and asserting control in every scrum.
In the tight exchanges, the backs provided strong support, with centres Isaac P and Adam R repeatedly punching holes and searching for gaps in a well-organised Ironsides defence.
The first points of the match came from a powerful forward assault, finished superbly by Alfie B, the number 8 and vice-captain, crashing over for the opening try. Ted E added the extras with a confidently struck conversion.
The second half picked up exactly where the first left off, with close-quarters rugby, fierce competition at the breakdown, and no inch given without a fight. Unfortunately for Warlingham, Battersea managed to snatch the win through a pair of breakaway tries that proved costly on the scoreboard.
Despite the result, every Warlingham player left the pitch having given absolutely everything. Their commitment, physicality, and teamwork were evident from start to finish, showing exactly what it means to wear the shirt and play with pride.
