Huge congratulations to Touch player Kat Hand, who completed the Brighton Half Marathon last Sunday, raising nearly £800 for suicide prevention charity Grassroots Suicide Prevention.
Kat ran in memory of her nephew, Jojo, who was sadly lost to suicide last year. Jojo once worked a summer season on Brighton seafront before following his passion for skiing and travel, living what Kat describes as “a life full of adventure and love.” Brighton holds many memories of him, and it was there that Kat chose to take on her own challenge in his honour.
Race day itself was far from glorious, with wind and rain battering the course. But, as Kat put it, being “trained on Warly rugby pitches” meant she was more than prepared for the conditions. Powered by an incredible support team, music, dancing and even the occasional handful of Haribo along the route, she crossed the finish line in a very respectable time.
“These achievements and challenges are definitely a team effort,” Kat said afterwards. “I did this in memory of Jojo but with thoughts for all of us who may be struggling.”
If you would like to support Kat’s fundraising for this important cause, you can still donate via her JustGiving page, here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Kat-s-half-marathon-for-Jojo
We’re incredibly proud to have people like Kat in our club community, reminding us that Warly isn’t just about rugby, it’s about looking out for one another too.
