While the action on the pitch rightly took centre stage, “The Pride Returns” was about far more than rugby. It was a day that celebrated the role of women and girls across the club, as players, officials, volunteers, and as part of a wider community that looks after its own.
One of the standout moments came from within our Junior Wildcats section, as Libby stepped onto the pitch in a new role, as a referee.
Freshly qualified, Libby took charge of matches during the All-Girls Minis Exhibition and did a fantastic job, with confidence and composure beyond her years. Her contribution highlighted an important part of growing the game, officials are vital at every level, and seeing a young player step forward in this way is something the whole club can be proud of.
Libby’s involvement is a powerful example of the pathways being created for girls at Warlingham, not just to play, but to lead, to give back, and to shape the future of the game.
Off the pitch, the clubhouse was full as members and supporters came together for a fundraising lunch in support of our charity partner, East Surrey Domestic Abuse Services (ESDAS), as well as the continued development of women’s and girls’ rugby at the club.
The event was given an extra lift by the presence of actor Jamie Foreman (Layer Cake), who, alongside Phil Sheridan, helped host the auction and generously donated a piece of film memorabilia, contributing to a fantastic atmosphere throughout the afternoon.
Thanks to the incredible support, generosity and enthusiasm of everyone who attended, we’re delighted to share that the event raised well over £1,000. The funds will be split equally between ESDAS and our Women’s and Girls’ section, helping to support vital services in the local community while continuing to grow the game at Warlingham.
Taken together, these moments captured what the day was all about. From a young referee taking her first steps in officiating, to a community coming together to support an important cause, “The Pride Returns” showed exactly what this club stands for.

A huge thank you and congratulations must go to Hayley Sasserath, our Women’s and Girls’ Chair, and her team, for delivering such a spectacular event and being a relentless force in driving the female game forward at the club. The pathway has not always been straightforward, but the success of Sunday’s event is a testament to her determination to build a thriving women’s and girls’ section at Warlingham. A brilliant achievement, and one the whole club is proud of.
Well done again, Hayley - we can’t wait to see the Wildcats back in action again soon!
