Warlingham’s woes continue as they went down to a five try to one defeat against
a hefty Portsmouth side despite some spirited defending and ambitious play from
the home side. An early penalty to Portsmouth followed by a poor kick out of defence
gave the Portsmouth winger an easy gallop back into the Warlingham territory. Slick handling and Portsmouth got their first converted try. Warlingham fought back with great determination and a dart from centre Mark Kozminski through the midfield gave Warlingham a sniff of a score. From the ensuing ruck captain Henry Payne,
deputising for the injured Alex Skinner, forced his way over the try line for a deserved Warlingham score. The inclement conditions made open play difficult and frustration crept into the game resulting in the referee showing his yellow card to a player from each side. Portsmouth used the reduced numbers to their advantage and grabbed a converted try and a penalty before half time. Stiff tackling from No 8 Matt

After the turn round Portsmouth picked up a further three unanswered tries – and a second yellow card - but Warlingham battled to the end with fly half Peter Jecks kicking intelligently and centre Alex Watson looking sharp whenever he was on the ball. After the game Warlingham head coach, Paddy Dennien said, “Until we get a settled side it’ll be difficult to put together a pattern of play. The lads put in 100% effort again this afternoon and that’s all I can ask,”

Next Saturday Warlingham are away to Andover who are just two places above them in the league.
