Old Freemens 27 - 31 WRFC

Warlingham snatched victory from the jaws of defeat away at Old Freemens to bag a bonus point with an incredible comeback. Trailing by 20 points into the second half against a galvanised home side who played the slope to perfection, the Wars showed never say die spirit to claim the win.

The introduction of Lewis Hazeldine at 9 and the redeployment of man of the match Terry Gillam into the centres saw the blue and whites open up the hosts at will in the second half. Tries from outside backs Oli Archer, Mark Chatfield and debutant Zion Dell got Warlingham back into the groove. And when prolific try-scoring loose forward Riley Potter bashed his way over in customary fashion, the game was back in the balance.

Terrell Palmer-Simpson claimed the winning score with a mazy run before diving under the sticks to wild celebrations from the Warlingham players and supporters. A moment of relief but it’s always euphoric to comeback to win. Olly Wilson took his time and added the extras to add to his previous 2 conversions.

Warlingham could head home happy but with lots to work on for this Saturday’s visit of Old Amplefordians. All support very welcome at Hamsey Green for a 2pm kick off.
