On Monday the club community said its final goodbyes to a true legend and stalwart of Warlingham RFC, Mark “Brighty” Bright. A huge turnout at Beckenham Crematorium meant standing room only (with nary room for that), as family, friends, and a great number of club members in stripes came together to pay their respects, and hear touching eulogies from those who knew him best.
We heard stories of a life very well lived, from his days at Caterham School, university, then through work, his joie de vivre, infectious smile and magnetic charisma gave him an enormous talent, as a school friend put it, to collect friends.
After the funeral, everybody decamped to a busy club, joining other members who had gathered to watch the ceremony’s live stream. By mid-afternoon, the walls were heaving with people, the atmosphere dense with conversation, cheer, and laughter, as recollections and memories of time spent with Mark were shared.
The whole day was a beautiful send off, and a true celebration of life.
RIP Brighty
